We thought it only appropriate to share some photos from last year’s mega fun event at GOODs, where we teamed up with unfurgettable goods to promote and sell some of their adorable “Adopt Don’t Shop” pins and stickers alongside our massive pile of pet poufs. Also in attendance was a much-needed flask of hot bourbon apple cider (it was super chilly that day!) and Rebecca’s pint-sized terrier, Greta, who tried (unsuccessfully) to eat our Lily Spindle clients’ beautiful black labs.
Despite the cold weather, so many of our dog and design-loving fans and friends came by to celebrate our pop-up and to SHOP SMALL SATURDAY because they’re clever, brilliant humans who understand the integral nature of supporting small businesses like ours. Fold in the fact that our business, like the aforementioned, are all exclusively women-owned, and you’ve got yourself a delicious shop small sandwich.
WHY SHOP SMALL?
2 - As of 2017, Women Owned businesses account for 39 percent of all businesses in the U.S. but only 4.2 percent of overall business revenues.
3 - Women entrepreneurs face challenges getting fair access to capital. Just 4 percent of the total dollar value of all small business loans goes to women business owners.
4 - Women reinvest up to 90 percent of their income in their families and communities, compared to 40 percent for men (source: Forbes)
5 - Small businesses tend to select products and wares based on their own interests and the needs of local clientele, bringing a broader, more diverse range of wares goods to the market, thereby supporting other small makers and designers.
6 - Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some sectors, can provide better wages and benefits than chains do.
